We never knew who JJ was or why he (or she) needed to tie a buckle, but for those not familiar with the acronym, it was used to reinforce those traits that the military considers key elements of effective leadership: As a Midshipmen going through NROTC, the acronym JJ DID TIE BUCKLE permeated our daily leadership training regimen and continues to resonate with military professionals today.
